Principal NAND Probe Engineer

As a Principal Probe Engineer in Technology Development, you will play an active role in developing Micron's newest memory technologies. Micron is looking for a talented engineer who will help drive innovation in our testing, accelerating our development and deployment of new NAND technologies. You will work closely with the Process Integration, Product Engineering, and Yield Enhancement teams to improve test coverage, segmentation, and performance of Micron's future NAND devices.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • You will design test programs and methodologies for new products and technology

  • You will optimize testing by applying more efficient methods to reduce product test times and manufacturing costs

  • You will automate test processes by writing software to improve work efficiency

  • You will develop tools to help provide better analysis and insight of the terabytes of probe data

  • Develop new Design For Test (DFT) and Design For Manufacturability (DFM) capabilities

  • Work with internal and external suppliers to develop and qualify new test solutions

  • Collaborate with other engineering departments to improve overall product yield and performance

  • Work within a global team to achieve success on large-scale projects

Qualifications:

Probe Engineering is a multi-disciplinary field, requiring knowledge of semiconductor operation, computer architecture, programming, and statistics. Applicants with a wide range of interests and can expect to be constantly learning new skills every single day. Because Probe engineering works with many other departments, the applicant should also be highly motivated with validated communication and reporting abilities.

The applicant for this position will have:

  • A deep understanding of NAND device and cell operation

  • Practical experience with non-volatile memory components

  • Practical experience in the testing, qualifying, or production of memory devices

  • The shown ability to innovate and drive effective change in an energizing environment

  • Excellent technical social skills

  • Excellent analytical skills

Helpful additional knowledge:

  • Previous experience with Fab, Probe/Wafer Sort, Assembly, Test, or QA

  • Expertise in C/C++

  • Experience testing and improving non-volatile memory reliability

  • Non-volatile testing and characterization such as read-window-budget (RWB) and wafer-level-reliability (WLR)

Required Education:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, plus a minimum of 5 years of NAND product development or test.

As a NAND Process Integration Engineer you will take ownership of one or more process modules related to the development and operation of a semiconductor integrated circuit. This requires understanding of structural requirements, electrical performance, and process control mechanisms. Successful candidates must be proactive in identifying potential issues and addressing them early. Patent disclosures are expected on a regular basis. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Provide team leadership in all module development areas. * Work effectively with Process Engineers, Layout, Design, Device Simulation, Probe, EFA, PFA, and Product Engineering resources. * Procure wafer resources for Module development. * Learn Yield and Parametric Outputs that are directly related to your module. Provide regular reports on critical metrics. * Set a clear direction and vision for the module and provide a path for continual improvement in the module. * Understand overall flow. Provide regular inputs and feedback to team regarding upstream and downstream impacts to your module. * Understand and read technical literature and apply to your own research projects within your module. * Understand scaling issues and have the insight to provide future direction. * Work with Planning and Process Groups to provide Cost and Manufacturability vs. Quality assessments and optimization for process options. * Understand design rules, OPC, database, layout, etc. and be able to inspect layout, fractured data for errors. * Carefully organize and coordinate all SWR and Conversion activities to enable the project to proceed in a rapid, error free manner. * Includes: SWRS, Reticle Layout and build, Process Traveler revisions, Line conversions, complex rules for automation, yield tracking and reporting. * Understand and utilize Design of experiments, surface response models, etc. * Be able to collect and analyze critical data during experimental processing. * Request any standard and additional tests when working with YE/PE to evaluate and improve the process and product based on data analysis. * Develop expertise in parametric tests, probe flow, circuit operation, etc. * Analyze experiments, translate failures into root cause and drive conclusions to improve yield and reliability problems. * Analyze materials electrically, physically, etc. and work with process groups, etc. to select new materials and directions for development. * Drive the material changes from research into production. * Make key decisions for the team, as well as provide clear direction, goals and metrics for success of the team. * Demonstrate a strong work ethic and be highly motivated * Establish clear and strong lines of communication allowing a quick response to customer requirements. * Communicate key information via presentations and group discussion and drive informed decisions through management, peers and direct reports * Prepare documentation and communication to Manufacturing Engineers for the transfer of a Technology from R&D to Manufacturing. * Continually grow technical and management skills and pursue continued education via training.
