Caritas Legal Services is the legal aid program of Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio. The Caritas program was established in 2003 and provides legal aid to low-income and immigrant families as well as those who are victims of crime, domestic violence and human trafficking.
Caritas provides low cost legal representation for individuals and families who cannot afford private attorneys. Caritas operates in family law matters, provides social security disability legal assistance and provides civil and immigration representation. Our services are either free of charge or are extremely discounted and are determined by a sliding scale fee schedule, which is dependent on client income.
Ask-A-Lawyer Free Legal Clinics - Free walk-in legal clinics are held several times throughout the year. The Ask-A-Lawyer clinics are hosted by Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. and St. Mary's University School of Law.
Law student volunteers interview individuals about various legal issues. Licensed attorneys consult with the students about the legal issues presented. Participants are offered legal information, and if necessary, referrals to legal aid or to other attorneys who may work on a sliding scale or payment plan.
Immigration Services - through education and direct service, the Immigration Services works toward the just and humane treatment of all immigrants by helping them to achieve the full benefits available to them under immigration law. Providing professional consultation and reduced-fee legal services, the Immigration Services focuses on reuniting families by guiding immigrants through the complex legal process.
