AUDIT ASSOCIATE

Position Description

At RSM, associates work with large and small companies in various industries. They develop strong working relationships with clients built on understanding their businesses and challenges. Associates work on multiple team engagements each year, including several pieces of any particular assignment - not just one part. Examples of the candidate's responsibilities include:

  • Understanding clients' needs and expectations, their business and industry, accounting and control systems, employees, company values and industry-related GAAP and GAAS issues

  • Developing an understanding of the RSM audit approach and tools

  • Assessing risks and evaluating the client's internal control structure

  • Performing substantive tests and tests of internal controls to identify and resolve accounting or reporting issues

  • Drafting financial statements under prescribed formats

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.A / B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited university by the time employment commences

  • Accounting major

  • Meeting education requirement for CPA certification in the state where you are applying for employment

  • Travel to assigned client locations is required. Must have access to and ability to arrange for use of reliable modes of transportation to those locations

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred

Position Overview We are looking for an Audit Senior specializing in nonprofit and government industries in our Duluth, MN office. You will conduct audits, reviews, and compilations, prepares financial statements, and communicates results to client and firm associates. Everything you'll do will come back to providing exceptional audit activities for our clients. Responsibilities * Respond to client and firm associate requests in a timely, accurate, positive and professional manner * Prepare client correspondence, letters, e-mail, or other communications pertaining to engagement planning and requests * Perform audit, review, and compilation testing procedures in accordance with firm and professional standards as directed by engagement leaders * Complete engagement programs and checklists and respond to review comments * Communicate with engagement leaders regarding open items, testing problems, or other important matters in a timely manner * Prepare (or review client prepared) financial statements and footnotes, management reports, and other engagement output * Adhere to prescribed budgets and deadlines * Train and mentor associates and interns on audit process and assess performance of staff for engagement reviews; perform in-charge role as needed. * Develop technical competency with GAAP, especially related to assigned product line, to include specific areas such as receivables, inventory, costings, etc. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting * A minimum of 3 years' work experience as an auditor in a public accounting firm * US CPA licensure in your work state preferred * Experience in auditing nonprofit and government clients * Actively participate in firm sponsored events for assigned product line clients and prospects * Working knowledge of US GAAP * Excellent communication and negotiation skills and a collaborative approach to management * The flexibility to constantly learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment * Willingness to travel up to 30% Recruiting Process Our recruiting team will guide you through our evaluation and interviewing process.
