This position is designed to fulfill the required hours of in-classroom observation and student teaching to become certified as a teacher.

Your program must have a current agreement with HISD in order to be eligible for student teaching/observing at an HISD location.

Student Teachers The HISD Human Resources Department partners with university/college programs (holding current agreements) to place student teachers on HISD campuses. Your application will not be reviewed if your program has not submitted your name to Human Resources.

Observers The HISD Human Resources Department does not place student observers. This application is only for the purpose of submitting background information. Your application will not be reviewed if your program has not submitted your name to Human Resources.

Student programs are responsible for placement assignments on HISD campuses. Please work with your student teaching coordinator/supervisor for guidance on placement.

Once your application including your background is submitted, a member of Human Resources (Teacher Recruitment) will contact you with your results. You may not report to any HISD campus before receiving background clearance.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES List most important duties first * Diagnoses vehicle repair needs using engine analyzers and other automotive diagnostic equipment. Operates all district vehicles to include but not limited to: buses, light fleet vehicles and all industrial equipment including bull dozers, road graders, boom and bucket trucks, forklifts, backhoes, bobcats, trailers, generators, and air compressors. Performs engine tune-up and diesel fuel system adjustments and calibrations, including diesel pump timing. Follows all HISD safety policies and procedures. * Repairs and/or replaces brakes, engines, transmissions, clutches, rear axle assemblies, suspension and steering components, radiators, air conditioners, carburetors, fuel pumps, exhaust systems, vehicle electrical systems, and other components on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles. * Dispatches service calls to include tire truck, service truck and wrecker (heavy and light Tow Truck operation) as required to perform maintenance work on road service calls including prompt, courteous and efficient emergency road service to HISD disabled vehicles. * Performs automotive sheet metal and body repairs including painting, refinishing, interior upholstering and replacing glass. Performs light carpentry; sometimes performs major carpentry repairs on heavy equipment trailers and bus flooring. Welds, burns, fabricates and repairs equipment. * Operates special shop equipment such as disc and drum brake lathes, front end alignment machines, tire mounting equipment, A/C recovery system, overhead cranes, and pressure washers. * Performs other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED WORK EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years TYPE OF SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier), Hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver), Power tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill, pheunomatic hammer), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift) Must obtain a Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement within 90 days from time of hire and maintain throughout the length of employment, A/C recovery Certification, ASE Certification. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff. WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis. BUDGET AUTHORITY: No budget development activity is required. PROBLEM SOLVING: Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures or services. IMPACT OF DECISIONS: Decisions have minor, small and possibly incremental impact on the department or facility. Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.
