Specific Responsibilities of this Position:

  • The System Test Engineer (STE) for Vehicle Data Services (VDS) is responsible for testing the various aspects of the Vehicle Health Management or Remote Diagnostic and Alert feature to ensure that the system is functioning per requirements.

  • The STE will be responsible for testing on various benches and vehicle programs where this feature is present.

  • The STE will work with diagnostics and data collection related to battery, starter, brake, and communication systems within the feature.

  • The STE will also work closely with the VDS LSVE, Functional Lead and System Engineers to understand the given requirements in order to create and execute test plans and methods to validate the intended functions.

  • Work within a team to coordinate validation efforts for Vehicle Data Services.

  • Perform integration bench level testing for VHM or RDA.

  • Create, manage and execute test plans.

  • Develop test methods and models to be able to test critical components within the system.

  • Automate test scripts and work with HIL setups to execute test procedures in a closed loop model environment.

  • Capture and analyze data to troubleshoot issues.

  • Issue PRTS to document issues.

  • Generate and release testing reports.

  • Provide interface for team to other departments and suppliers.

  • Develop and lead test methods in this growing area.

  • Travel as required.

  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

  • High level of oral and written communication skills.

  • High level of organizational skills - Able to manage multiple projects across multiple programs.

  • Able to work within a team of engineers and communicate issues and testing results effectively.

  • Ability to act as a single voice for bench level testing for assigned systems.

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms.

  • Knowledge of GMLAN or CAN based communication and diagnostcs.

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.

  • 4+ years experience in engineering related area.

  • This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis.


  • Knowledge of vehicle level diagnostics.

  • Proficient in the use of CAN tools.

  • Previous testing experience in automotive.
