Information about locations within Alaska can be found at: https://www.commerce.alaska.gov/dcra/DCRAExternal/ Learn more about this agency Responsibilities * Investigate areas where acts of criminal activity, theft, vandalism or offenses of the criminal laws and regulations that related to public lands and resources have occurred. * Serve as pilot-in-command of single-engine fixed-wing aircraft on floats, wheels, or skis. Flights are over remote and uncharted terrain; conducted at low speeds and/or low altitudes using unimproved landing strips, roadways, or river banks/sandbars. * Provide specialized aerial surveillance, point-to-point aircraft operations, and airborne detection and investigative surveillance of violations of laws and regulations pertaining to public and adjacent lands. * Enforce a variety of Federal laws and regulations related to public land and resources by performing investigations, apprehending suspects and violators, performing surveillance activities, and making enforcement contacts. * Participate in searching for and rescuing lost, stranded, and/or injured visitor to public lands. You will need to provide the information annually. * You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. * Competitive service federal employees are subject to Time-In-Grade in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the GS pay plan you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. * Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. * Passage of a pre-employment physical is required. * May require completion of a 1 year probationary period. * The duties of this position may require the incumbent to perform irregular or occasional overtime per week. The position may qualify for Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUO). * This position required regular and recurring overtime and shift work. * This position requires you to wear an officially-approved uniform while in a duty status. * You will be required to carry a firearm in the performance of your duties. * Applicants are ineligible for this position if at ANY time they have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence, unless such conviction was expunged, set aside or the applicant receives a pardon. Qualifications We must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To be creditable, this experience must have been for 1 year and equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. (If the position was seasonal, your resume must show periods worked.) You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements: * One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrated the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historic preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations; AND * Meet ALL of the following requirements: (1) Possess a current FAA commercial Airman Certificate with ratings single-engine land (ASEL) and single-engine sea (ASES); (2) Possess an instrument rating; (3) Have completed a minimum of 500 hours of flight time as Pilot-in-Command and 25 hours of flight time as Pilot-in-Command at night; and (4) Possess a current Class II Medical Certificate. Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified. You must possess a Level I law enforcement commission or have completed training in an accredited institution which provided at least 680 hours of study whose course has been approved by the Bureau of Land Management or have completed a comparable state or Federal certified law enforcement program.
