Fort Knox is an open-pit gold mine located near Fairbanks, Alaska in one of the largest gold producing areas of the state. It is mined by conventional open-pit methods, with ore processed at a mill and heap leach facility. Fort Knox has one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Job Description Under the direction of the Controller and the Accounting Superintendent, the Senior Accountant will perform site financial related activities, including, but not limited to, general ledger management, cost reporting, budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, supply chain and general process improvement. The position will assist with accounting and financial reporting in compliance with Kinross policies, GAAP and IFRS. The position also will work with the site management team and other site personnel to assist with timely and accurate variance analysis across multiple departments while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values. Job Responsibilities * Lead the Ft. Knox monthly/quarterly/annual financial close process, ensuring that all accounting activities are completed in accordance with the Ft. Knox accounting close schedule in an accurate and timely manner. * Lead and/or prepare all monthly accounting reconciliations as required on the FGMI Balance Sheet. * Manage and ensure compliance with corporate and site SOX controls, as well as internal controls over the financial processes, including accounts payable and the financial close. * Provide supervision to the Accounts Payable process, including the supervision of the Accounting Technicians, proper processing and payment of invoices and the development of the cash requirements for the cash call. * Prepare the monthly site financial package which will include an analysis of site costs and explanations of significant variances versus budgets and forecasts. * Insure the proper recording and accounting for Fixed Assets, including managing depreciation and the periodic Fixed Asset audits. * Assist with capital planning and the development of AFE's (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital projects, including the appropriate economic analysis required. * Manage and populate all site inventory WIP models and perform all inventory valuations. * Work with end users to manage capital projects, including adequate cost tracking and closeouts as appropriate. * Assist end users with cost analysis, including the investigation and research any and all cost related questions. * Prepare management presentation packages for submission to corporate, including items such as the monthly capital reporting and the quarterly business review. * Provide assistance to the Accounting Superintendent in the preparation of all required forecasts and annual budget activities. * Manage and populate financial models used for budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning. * Coordinate accounting and financial activities across multiple site departments, including providing advice on policies and procedures. * Lead process improvement activities as identified and directed by the Controller and the Accounting Superintendent. * Prepare business and financial analysis to support decision making. * Provide positional leadership and training to site departmental personnel and others based on extensive experience in the financial area and at the mine site. * Functions as backup to Accounting Superintendent as needed, covering periods of absence. * Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience * Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive organizational skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. * Undergraduate business degree from an accredited university and/or equivalent experience. Accounting degree, with CMA/CPA or MBA preferred. * 5+ years of related work experience in a mining or a continuous process environment. * General Ledger experience with an integrated ERP/MRP software package coordinating multiple business units and proper allocations preferred. * Previous experience in the mining industry with a SOX regulated entity preferred.
