Summary: The role of the Registered Nurse Supervisor is to support the Wellness Center by providing leadership, supervision, training and assistance to those that provide direct provider support.?? Included in this group are Certified Medical Assistants, Panel Management Assistants, Intake Specialist, and Nurse Case Managers.?? This position works closely with healthcare providers to ensure that they are fully supported by the support roles this position supervises.?? This position will also support triage, physical examination, and medical interventions.?? The RN Supervisor serves as Immunization Coordinator and provides training and ensures competency for the proper administration, storage and handling of all vaccinations. Essential Functions: -Coordinate training and leadership of Certified Medical Assistants, Panel Management Assistants, Intake Specialist, and Nurse Case Managers. regarding basic medical and clerical procedures before and after examination including but not limited to taking of vital signs, medical history update, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, recording of EKG"s, dressing changes, medication administration and dispensing per provider orders, immunization administration, scheduling patient appointments and procedures, and documentation of care in health record, and coordination of care. -Ensures appropriate competencies for each skill is documented, updated annually and kept on file for all supervised employees. -Ensures that direct provider support is consistent throughout the Primary Care Department through standardized practices. -Assist and support the development of medical protocols. -Advocates and supports integrated care and support process improvement throughout DWC and Tribe -Meet with Certified Medical Assistants, Panel Management Assistants, DWC Intake Specialist, and Nurse Case Managers, for training and sharing of information. This may be done with in formally scheduled meetings and intermittently. -Manages Immunization Coordination, insuring the clinic adheres to all federal and state mandated guidelines for the safe handling, storage and administration of vaccinations. Also provides training and education for any immunization related question for staff and patients. -Completes a monthly emergency medical drill with direct provider support team. -Performs patient education as directed by the provider and available evidence-based guidelines. -Administer and monitor intravenous fluids and medications as prescribed by medical providers. -Utilizes motivational interviewing skills to develop goals and plans for behavior change and creates professional development plans for staff. -Advises Primary Care HSA of opportunities and needed support from the direct provider support team.?? - Consults with Medical Director, Primary Care HSA, and Primary Care Providers regarding any questions and concerns that require clinical advisement. -Attend staff meetings for information sharing, continuing education activities, and participate in continuous improvement efforts as assigned by the Primary Care HSA. -Communicate and collaborate with Primary Care HSA and Medical Director to ensure efficient and comprehensive care as per State Board of Nursing Standards -Assign direct provider support schedule, immunization schedule, lunch schedule, and cross cover duties with medical assistants and facility intake specialists to ensure patient flow and proper care. -Assign and oversee additional tasks including all QA duties, CPR classes, VacTrak, supply management (including procuring, expiration management), oxygen tanks, and sterilization duties. Qualifications: Associates or Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree 5 years experience in nursing required and 3 years experience in supervisory nursing role Registered Nurse in the state of Alaska or able to obtain before starting. In this position you will: * Perform integrated initial and concurrent review to identify medical necessity and utilization issues. * Apply admission, continued stay/transfer, and discharge criteria to each patient's case. * Interface with external review companies and consultants, using advocacy and negotiating skills that address medical necessity and appropriateness of inpatient/outpatient levels of care. * Advocate and support the case management process using the Patient-Centric Care Management Model as a guideline. * Partner with the healthcare team, community resources, liaisons, and families to provide timely coordinated admission and discharge planning that is appropriate based on patient needs. * Match patients with appropriate internal and external resources to meet their ongoing needs, and facilitates application(s) for programs and referrals for special needs. * Assist in management of resources with informational and monitoring tool(s) that support access, confidentiality, assessment, analysis of care and throughput, intervention, efficiencies, and quality of care. Required qualifications for this position include: * Graduate from accredited school of Nursing * All Registered Nurses without a Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) degree or higher must obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire. * Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Alaska at time of hire * 2 years of clinical nursing experience * Able to read, write and speak English Preferred qualifications for this position include: * Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree * 1 year of experience of Utilization Management-review and Discharge-planning experience * Knowledge of provider requirements for admissions, transfers, and discharges About Case Management Our dedicated team of Nurse Case Manager's and Social Work professionals work in close collaboration with healthcare team members and providers to assist neonates to geriatric patients and families in making decisions regarding continuity of care.
