JOB SUMMARY This position will support the Southern Company Generation goals and business results related to safety, compliance, budgets, people, and technical skills. This shall be accomplished by providing industry leading technical field support for both project management and field support demand services. This position will assist in defining the HRSG maintenance strategies for the Southern Company fleet to identify and mitigate reliability risk in an economical manner. This position will also assist with major capital HRSG component replacements. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES This position will support the Southern Company HRSG fleet predominately in the southeast United States. This position will perform the following duties: * Support engineering, operation, maintenance, and field service activities required to inspect and repair HRSGs. Knowledge/Skills * Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program or at least five (5) years' experience in the installation and/or quality assurance of utility boiler or HRSG pressure parts or in maintenance or operation of an HRSG or utility boiler. * This position requires a working knowledge of the functional characteristics of at least most major mechanical power plant equipment [i.e., HRSG's, boilers, steam turbines, condensers, major pumps, cooling towers, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), oxidation catalyst for CO reduction, thermal cycle, and circulating water system] to provide effective solutions to equipment problems and maintenance activities. * Experience with major retrofit projects such as replacing pressure part components, harps or modules, for HRSGs is a plus. * Ability to analyze critical situations and determine competent solutions that can be implemented in a safe and effective manner. * General ability to utilize computer drawing programs and read engineering drawings. * Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse teams consisting of vendors, plant personnel, and other E&CS personnel to achieve successful project results. * Ability to successfully interface with pressure part manufacturers and other utility technical support suppliers (EPRI, Suppliers, etc.) in a professional manner. * Knowledge of NDE inspection techniques and processes. * Physical ability to climb ladders and in crawl in tight spaces, use fall protection while working at heights, respirator use, etc. * Must be proficient in use of computer-based applications, i.e. Microsoft Office suite. * Must possess effective written and oral communications skills. * Must exhibit Southern Style behavior. The Operations Manager directs the activity of staff, including the work of Service Project Managers, Client Service Managers, Engineering Specialists, and Service Specialists. This role may also take on project management or high-level account management duties for larger customers. Responsibilities * Plan, organize, direct, and control all building automation, fire life safety and security service operations activities on assigned portfolio, including projects, service agreements, and time and material scopes of work. * Advise management on local operations planning including resource hiring, development and allocation, financial forecasting, monitoring, and issue resolution planning. * Manage revenue and gross margin to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual business objectives. Monitor portfolio status and control associated costs to achieve margin targets as well as networking capital / free cash flow. * Direct and supervise the development of service work to ensure customer commitments are met within estimated budgets. Ensure schedules are maintained and scopes of work proceed in accordance with contract requirements and customer expectations. * Provide technical and operational support for the Sales Team, including proper pricing and scope of work definition for service agreement and service project opportunities. Perform cost reviews on all applicable scopes of work, and ensure that Project Management team is set up for success. * Manage or advise on hiring, training and development, allocation, and performance assessment of personnel within area of responsibility. * Ensure the proper implementation of all company policies, procedures, and productivity tools. Maintain working knowledge of regulatory laws, changes, and requirements. Advise and implement industry and field best practices to improve products, applications, and services. * Represent Siemens in industry associations, professional organizations, and affiliations while developing relationships with customers, contractors, and community leaders. Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience * Required education: High school diploma, state-recognized GED, or state-recognized high school proficiency exam. * Required experience: Five years of experience in the installation and maintenance of building automation systems including at least two years of supervisory or management experience; Siemens employees who have management experience in building technologies other than building automation also will be considered. * Required travel: 5% * Other requirements: o Strong understanding of financial reports and ability to implement cost controls. o Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills in English. o Excellent organizational skills: must be able to handle multiple tasks and duties effectively. o Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook and Project. o Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and be at least 21 years old to participate in the required Siemens vehicle plan. o Must be able to work in the U.S. without a need for current or future sponsorship.
