Purpose of Position The Duluth Trading Company Assistant Store Manager ensures they lead their store team in delivering the Duluth Brand experience daily. The Assistant manager will lead the focus on achieving KPI's through proper hiring, staff development, merchandise presentation, operational excellence, inventory controls and loss prevention. Key Accountabilities Sales and Goals Achievement: * Demonstrates leadership in driving sales and profitability by achieving financial goals. * Lead KPI initiatives through Associate training and development. * Leads and maintains merchandise presentation according to Visual Merchandising standards and current floor-set and product messaging, in addition to maintaining all current sales promotions. Customer Service: * Personally demonstrates high level of customer engagement and sets expectations for team. Understands the customer is the center of what we do. * Develops an exceptional familiarity of the Duluth brand and comprehensive product knowledge to provide solution-oriented, friendly service to customers. Leads team in doing the same. * Partners with Store Manager on developing optimum staffing levels and floor coverage to engage the customer. * Ensures customer profile information is accurately recorded. * Ensures Company standards for cleanliness for the sales floor, stockroom, restrooms, cash wrap and hospitality area. Human Resources/Leadership Skills: * Partners with Store Manager to recruit, hire, train, motivate and lead employees. * Demonstrates professionalism, integrity and company values when addressing employees. * Exhibits sound decision-making skills and performs with a minimum of supervision; is solution based. * Provides clear and consistent feedback to employees on a regular basis. * Assists Store Manager in ensuring all Human Resource protocols and documentation are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Store and employee files are maintained according to all standards. * Assist in goal setting process for Store leadership team * Adheres to all Company guidelines, policies and programs and sets a positive example. * Is receptive and responsive to feedback. * Identifies problems and opportunities to discuss with Store Manager. Store Operations: * Understands inventory and expense control. * Leads team in handling of merchandise receipts and transfers quickly and accurately. * Leads team in the visual merchandising of sales floor. * Understands, executes and trains all cash handling and reporting functions * Properly processes all register functions and ensures they are correctly followed in store. * Ensures store is secured; responds to any alarms as directed. * Ensures safety of employees and customers. Communicate concerns to Store Manager or Human Resources. Knowledge and Background Requirements: * High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's or Bachelor's degree with a focus in Business Administration and /or Merchandising preferred * Three years retail experience with a minimum of one year management experience. Retail Management preferred. * Specialty retail leadership experience a plus * Customer centric. * Able to adapt in a growing and changing environment. * Able to motivate and lead others. * Strong problem solving skills and the ability to make good decisions. * Goal oriented and results driven. * Exemplifies high standard of integrity and trust. * Excellent communicator and listener. * Collaborates and functions as part of a team. * Ability to work a flexible shift including nights and weekends. * Performs other duties as directed. Environmental Factors: * Must be able to stand or walk for up to eight hours a day. * Frequent reaching and bending and twisting – below waist and above shoulders. * Frequently required to use repetitive hand to finger motions and reach with hands and arms. * Frequently lifting up to twenty pounds, occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds. Push/pull up to 20 lbs. * Ability to climb ladders, reach and bend. * Work in temperatures ranging from 50 - 80 degrees – especially in our stock room areas. * Able to use common tools such as hammer, screw driver, and wrench for floor sets. * Use of a computer up to 60 % of the time throughout the day. Job Objectives Under the direction of the store manager, oversees the operation of a Walgreen store. Assumes full management responsibility in the absence of the store manager and assistant store manager. Improves store sales, profitability and image through proper merchandising, protection of store assets, supervising team members in the absence of the store manager, and modeling and delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Completes Drug Store Management training program during specified timeframe. Job Responsibilities Customer Experience * Monitors and analyzes the customer service provided by team members. Offers feedback and coaching. * Greets customers and clinic patients, and offers assistance with products and services. * Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.). * Resolves customer complaints and helps respond to customers' special needs. Operations * Supervises operation of the store and team members, opening/closing/changing shifts, and task delegation to team members. * Supervises the control of the store money including register counts, withdraws from bank, armored car pickups, safe deposits, change orders and oversees all aspects of bookkeeping including ledger, invoices, cash reports and time records. * Performs and supervises merchandising by planning and ensuring the implementation, sets, resets and revisions of basic department and end stands, display tables, and promotional space, using multiple discount pricing, signs, advertising, promotional items, seasonality, etc. * Learns to analyze inventory trends and supervises inventory management, including ordering items, keeping stock, and liquidating stock and leveraging company resources to avoid outs and overstock. * Supervises receiving, stocking, pricing, returning, and transferring of merchandise. * Ensures that store/grounds are clean and presentable; manages repair and maintenance; responds to emergencies. * Supervises operations of assigned location including strict compliance with any and all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the sale of alcohol, tobacco, fresh food, and pharmacy products. * Maintains knowledge of all computer and technology systems and software (e.g. registers, StoreNet, etc. Ensures response to all systems problems by contacting information technology support and seeking solutions. * Complies with all company policies and procedures; maintains respectful relationships with coworkers. * Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned, including assisting team members as needed. Business Performance Management * Receives exposure to analysis of financial and performance data for the store, pharmacy and clinic. * Reviews and analyzes asset protection data and develops and implements action plans to reduce loss. People and Performance Management * Supervises team members by assigning tasks, setting expectations, and providing feedback. * Ensures training of team members; provides coaching and mentoring. * Issues constructive discipline and makes discipline recommendations. * Promotes teamwork and motivates team members by establishing expectations, tracking results, showing enthusiasm and sharing vision. * Ensures compliance with all corporate policies, applicable employment laws, and is consistently fair in the treatment of all team members. Training and Personal Development * Participates in company and on-the-job training to improve skills and productivity and attends training requested by Store Manager, District Management, and corporate leaders. * Follows performance improvement plans offered by Store Manager and District Manager. * Seeks self-development by monitoring own performance, setting high personal standards, learning about the fields of retail, pharmacy and management, seeking best practices. * Obtains and maintains valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license as required by state. Communications * Communicates regularly with team members through one-on-one discussions, group meetings, soliciting input, answering questions, and ensuring communication is open between management and non-management team members. * Assists Store Manager in planning and attending community events. Basic Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree prior to position start date or High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of retail supervisory experience. * Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. * Willingness to work flexible schedule including extended days, evenings, and weekend hours.
