The Field Service Electronics Engineer is responsible for servicing electrical (high voltage environment) UPS systems, batteries, and electronic based products at customer sites. The AQE will further develop and use quality testing processes similar to APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) or DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) to measure and ensure new high volume manufacturing processes are ready for use. This position may be located in Louisville, KY with significant (50-75%) travel to Decatur, AL or in Decatur, AL. Relocation assistance may be offered. What you will Do * Provide technical leadership & in-depth expertise to project manage the development, procurement and implementation of equipment & processes for manufacturing. * Execute and lead the supplier approval process. Set up the evaluation criteria to prove qualification. * Lead the identification of CTQs and first piece capability studies to determine evaluation of good versus bad. * Assess and approve CMM and other metrology gauges by partnering with suppliers as they build equipment and tooling. * Execute and manage first piece system and that all drawings (includes parts and assemblies) are qualified. Job Summary: The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for initiating and conducting broadly defined technical tasks/programs within in the Decatur Materials manufacturing environment. This person will apply knowledge and experience to develop and refine both new and existing processes for optimal safety, quality, and efficiency. This operation will require complex and diverse solutions which drive results in EHS, quality, customer service, cost reductions and new product qualifications. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: * Identify, initiate, and lead projects to improve: process safety, quality, service, cost, capacity, and productivity through Lean Six Sigma and PPU methodologies. Raise the bar for process capability on manufacturing equipment using a variety of toolsets which also include standard work development, tier reviews and kaizens. * Efficiently troubleshoot defects and variation, performing root cause analysis and applying systemic problem solving skills and robust solutions. * Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve equipment downtime issues. * Engagement and involvement in daily operations to meet service targets, including direction/support of maintenance and division engineering activities. Participation in daily Lean Manufacturing Improvement efforts which include Tier LMS meetings. * Development and implementation of cross-functional projects, plans, and programs in support of business and strategic plans new process start-ups, new process technology integration, aggressive cost reduction, and supply chain improvement to meet overall project timelines. Realize growth opportunities by guiding new product introduction (NPI) efforts and completing experimental runs that lead to customer success. * Support local and global manufacturing teams on rapid resolution of customer complaints; including timely response, communication and implementation of corrective actions. Initiate follow-up improvements and control plans to prevent recurrence with thorough root cause analysis. * Maintains an awareness of quality improvement and customer first product opportunities. * Realize growth opportunities by guiding new product introduction (NPI) efforts and completing experimental runs that lead to customer success. * Establishes, fosters, and cultivates an extensive network of support (laboratory, quality, financial, manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing) to help facilitate completion of assignments. * Proactively communicate at all levels of the organization to drive direction. Functions as technical resource within immediate work group. * Monitor and maintain statistical process control charts with product process capability by appropriate index i.e. Cpk, Ppk. Assist in deployment of Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodology to control Key Process and Product Indicators (KPI). * Work closely with division personnel to validate new processes with high process capability and provide cost estimates * Actively participates in and leads project planning efforts. Suggests changes or future direction as needed. Participates in implementing changes and future direction * Willingness to be on-call * Represent 3M Decatur during internal and external customer interactions and audits * Other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: * Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution * Minimum of two (2) years of experience in manufacturing in a private, public, government or military environment Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline from an accredited institution * Experience in using statistical software packages (e.g. Minitab®) to analyze data * Demonstrated proficiency in the use of statistical and quality data analysis tools such as basic statistics, Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R), Statistical Process Control and Capability, acceptance sampling, correlation and regression, and their applications to process improvement. * Participated in Customer or Regulatory audits (ISO, IATF16949, etc.) * Minimum three (3) years of experience on working in a manufacturing environment * Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) * Self-driven with excellent organization skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks/projects and manage priorities accordingly. * Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification * Meticulous data collection and ability to adhere strictly to FSP/SOP's. * Excellent attention to detail and process/system oriented. Job Summary: The Resin Manufacturing Engineer will provide Process Engineering leadership focusing on safety, product quality, customer expectations, and continuous improvement for the resin manufacturing processes at 3M in Decatur, AL. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: * Responsible for implementation of new and modified processes and equipment to standardization. * Responsible for improving key performance measures for assigned processes: * Operating efficiency (OEE/CEE) * Rates * Process yield * Equipment runtime and downtime * Actively utilize Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing principles to improve processes, reduce waste, and provide project leadership. * Actively participate with Product Engineers in the resolution of product complaints. * Responsible for continuous improvement of assigned processes: * Develop and lead programs to increase product and process understanding * Develop and implement programs to reduce process variability * Provide technical support to Production and Plant Engineering on daily operational issues. * Assure process safety on process changes, operational safety procedures, and materials. * Assist production in resolving safety issues * Assist production in developing safety procedures. * Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures as necessary. * Potential for leadership of new product development including: * Setting up new specifications and raw materials. * Working with suppliers to resolve issues. * Develop Statistical Process Control Standards. * Work with support teams to provide appropriate staffing. * Work with Plant, Division, and other internal and external resources as needed to accomplish objectives. * Ability to cover nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary, to support 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year continuous manufacturing. Basic Qualifications: * Currently in the last year of pursuing or possess a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university Preferred Qualifications: * B.S. in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering preferred * Experience in manufacturing/process engineering is preferred. * Experience in resin or polymer manufacturing, extrusion, casting, film making, coating, and winding. * The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in best manufacturing practices (i.e. Six Sigma, SPC, Lean) and must exhibit strong organization, communication, project management, and coaching skills.
