Thorough working knowledge of plant electrical distribution system. Must be proficient in basic welding, use of shop equipment, piping, and sheet metal fabrication. Programming and troubleshooting PLC's. Experience in installation and troubleshooting electrical components. Knowledge and ability to comprehend and complete projects as assigned by use of technical, physical, or mental attributes, as needed. To keep production in operation as well as maintaining the rest of the plant structure. Responsible for good housekeeping of work area and equipment. The Plastics AME Team owns and maintains the engineering standards for plastic injection molding tooling and equipment for the company. The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for managing and executing tooling and plastic injection molding equipment projects, ensuring that all tooling and equipment are compliant with standards and executed within the project or program deliverables (cost, quality and delivery). At times, the Tooling Engineer will be assigned to New Product Introduction (NPI) programs or to product lines projects to drive product cost out and factory productivity. The Tooling Engineer will be a key liaison between the project team and the plant operation and manufacturing teams; ensuring that plant priorities and objectives are clearly understood and considered for the area under their ownership. What you will Do Essential results-based duties Technical Responsibilities: * Manage plastic injection mold tooling and equipment procurement projects: Including specification development utilizing GE standards, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation and qualification of high quality, right-sized and cost effective tooling & equipment. Ensure all tooling and equipment is reliable and robust and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). * Coordinate design efforts between part design engineers and the Plastic Injection Engineering Team in order to develop a robust Molding Operational Lineup (MOL) that meets product and operational requirements. * Own the program metrics as applicable to your assigned projects: manufacturing labor plan (VLOH), equipment and tooling budgets and quality of in-house manufactured parts/product. Work with the program / projects team(s) to perform trade-off analysis on competing metrics if necessary and drive decisions based on overall business impact. * Facilitate / lead the use of the Production Preparation Process (3P) while developing manufacturing tooling, equipment and processes. Utilize cross-functional participation to ensure that the tooling, equipment and processes are compatible with the entire value stream. Efforts should include: right-sized equipment, workstation design, material presentation, standard work and single piece flow. Standards and Compliance: * Ensure all equipment executed in GEA factories comply with Industry and Governmental Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards. * Utilize Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to ensure that all equipment / tooling / processes are implemented with the health and safety of the operators in mind. * Work with functional leaders to ensure equipment & processes support business initiatives of Bill of Process (BoP), Lean Manufacturing, Ergonomic Design and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Cross-functional Work and Leadership: * Work with factory operations and Lean teams to understand the Value Stream and how your projects impact this. Ensure material flow, workstation set up, model mix, etc. are considered when workstations / equipment are designed. * Utilize the 9-Step Process for tooling and equipment design; Work with cross-functional team to develop Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI). * Work with design team to ensure Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) is considered on part design. * Provide guidance, mentoring, training and leadership for more junior tooling engineers and/or cross-functional team members with regard to tooling design and execution. * Utilize technical and project experience to add to the plastic molding and AME teams' body of knowledge to drive continuous improvement throughout the organization and company. What you need to Succeed Position Requirement * Experience managing tooling & equipment procurement projects: Including specification development, supplier selection, technical reviews, installation and qualification of tooling / equipment * Experience with multiple injection molding equipment, molds (injection, insert, stack & family molds), quick mold change systems, and associated processes including insert, multi-shot & gas assist. * Prior experience in a large scale manufacturing environment * Experience with Lean manufacturing principles * Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members) * Ability to communicate effectively and be an agent for change. * Good organizational, project management and presentation skills to interact with all levels within the organization and with suppliers and vendors * Demonstrated ability to take ownership of cross-functional program deliverables and ability to drive decisions based on the overall benefit to the company * Ability to mentor, grow more junior members of the team and add to the body of AME knowledge for the business Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent hands on experience in technical/manufacturing disciplines OR graduate of a certified tool & die apprenticeship program * 7+ years of experience with tooling procurement & injection mold die design concepts, die components and applications. Principal Responsibilities * Performs pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment in accordance with Company policy to ensure windows, lights, mirrors and rear view camera are clean. Safely and efficiently operate equipment that may include: forklift, excavator, bulldozer, front-end loader and other equipment using proper safety standards. * Continuously monitors waste for evidence of unacceptable waste in materials. * Continuously monitors the condition of the equipment to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean tracks or wheels on equipment, as needed. * Performs and documents minor service on equipment, referring more complicated mechanical issues to Maintenance Shop for repair. * Completes Equipment Condition Report and other reports, as necessary; report any necessary repairs to supervisor, as needed. * Follows and enforces all required safety policies and procedures. * Ensures that shop is clean, serviced and stored at the completion of each shift. * Trains or assists in training new employees. * Studies production schedules and estimates hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. * Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew. * Directs employees in completion of work. May interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints or job orders to employees and assign duties. * Confers with supervisor or manager to coordinate activities of individual departments or shifts. * Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
