Characteristics of Work Benefits Supplemental Questions This is inspection work with the responsibility of ensuring that the State's sanitary laws and regulations are met. Incumbents in the position are responsible for inspecting beauty shops and cosmetology schools, or barber shops and barber school facilities within an assigned district. Other duties include inspecting for proper sanitary conditions, practices, and valid licenses. Incumbents are required to complete inspection report activities and recommendations to the Barber and Cosmetology Board; to encourage the use of the most effective sterilization methods; and to initiate legal proceedings against violators when violations occur. Examples of Work:Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following: Inspects schools and shops for sanitary conditions, including general cleanliness, ventilation, sterilization methods, water temperature, and adequate lighting. Ensures that beauty/barber facility workers are competent, maintain current certificates of registration, and abstain from the use of alcoholic beverages during working hours. Reports all inspection activities, including violations, to the central office. Ensures that proper supervision is exercised over apprentice barbers. Ensures that each operator and owner is complying with state regulations. Investigates suspected activities of unlicensed operators. Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications:These minimum qualifications have been agreed upon by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in this job class and are based upon a job analysis and the essential functions. Assists in developing plans and procedures for managing the facilities program, such as cost studies, budget requirements and other planning activities for both Regional and Unit level activities. Searches for ways to improve the financial aspects, services provided, productivity, performance of commercial vendors and cooperators, and the overall efficiency of the Region's facilities operations. Qualifications You must possess the basic requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-09 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Managed all phases of the buildings and facilities maintenance program, including installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and pumping systems associated with specialized operations; oversaw major repetitive tasks such as repair and replacement of components of buildings, septic and water systems, electrical systems, heating and refrigeration systems, grounds maintenance, snow removal from walk ways, paths, compound road system, parking lots and roofs, as necessary; monitored equipment costs and use, developed budget and cost estimates for facilities; conducted maintenance inspections and condition surveys; OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work and with major study in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration. GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Planned, coordinated and managed all phases of the buildings and facilities maintenance program, including installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and pumping systems associated with specialized operations; planned, managed, scheduled, and accomplished daily, weekly, and monthly inspection as well as annual, 3-year, 5-year, and long range planning for buildings, utilities, grounds, sanitation and other facilities to promote the administration of occupant safety and health, protection and maintenance of buildings and grounds for continuous productive operation; developed the budget and cost estimates for assigned facilities; oversaw major repetitive tasks such as repair and replacement of components of buildings, septic and water systems, electrical systems, heating and refrigeration systems, grounds maintenance, snow removal from walk ways, paths, compound road system, parking lots and roofs, as necessary; scheduled maintenance as required; evaluated and monitored equipment costs and used and made recommendations regarding efficiencies.
