Contribute to the mechanical design and development of portable and mobile two-way communication products and improve designs of current generation radio products. Utilize best in class tools to develop innovative solutions to design challenges. Identifies design issues and determines design direction, goals and plans tasks for segments of engineering programs. Generates and maintains mechanical engineering schedule for own tasks and responsibilities. Determines and implements changes to enhance design or meet functional specifications. Meets cost goals and monitors current cost status. Solicits guidance/feedback as necessary to improve performance. Performs stress, and tolerance analyses on new or existing designs or concepts to determine theoretical design feasibility. Designs and conducts experiments using statistical tools and techniques to confirm analyses, to evaluate new or existing designs to conform to product specifications, or resolve problems. Develops and presents test plans when problems arise, coordinates testing and data acquisition. Interfaces with program team members, suppliers, and customers. Negotiates tasks and schedules with other internal groups to ensure conformance to product schedules. Qualifications: * Experience in product development preferred. * Understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes such as injection molding, sheet metal and castings, design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) preferred. * Possess a working knowledge of worst-case and statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing. * Possess a working knowledge of finite element analysis theory and general mechanical engineering analysis. * Possess analytical/problem-solving skills, data acquisition skills, and ability to use statistical tools and techniques. * Able to solve difficult problems involving testing, planning, and implementation for new parts. * Knowledge of design engineering, test processes, and factory processes. * Basic computer skills, Pro/Engineer preferred and working knowledge of common business applications. * Possess good written and verbal communication skills. * Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to operate within a team environment. * Good organizational and time management skills, including daily and weekly planning and multitasking. * Ability to create/read/interpret engineering drawings. * Negotiation skills, presentation skills and ability to effectively conduct meetings

Mechanical Field Specialist – HRSGs Description Mechanical Field Specialist – HRSGs SCS Engineering & Construction Svcs – Mechanical Systems Boilers & Piping Dept LOCATION This position will be located at the Southern Company office in Birmingham, Alabama. JOB SUMMARY This position will support the Southern Company Generation goals and business results related to safety, compliance, budgets, people, and technical skills. This shall be accomplished by providing industry leading technical field support for both project management and field support demand services. This position will assist in defining the HRSG maintenance strategies for the Southern Company fleet to identify and mitigate reliability risk in an economical manner. This position will also assist with major capital HRSG component replacements. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES This position will support the Southern Company HRSG fleet predominately in the southeast United States. This position will perform the following duties: * Support engineering, operation, maintenance, and field service activities required to inspect and repair HRSGs. This includes performing a visual inspection of the entire HRSG, external and internal, and accurately documenting inspection findings and recommending repairs for correction. * Provide maintenance planning support for future outages. * Assist with pressure part replacements for HRSGs including specification development, print reviews, supplier shop inspections, installation, etc. * Assist with development and coordination of Southern Company initiatives (i.e. SOE, SCTR, etc.). * Assist with coordinating the HRSG system owner's meeting that is held yearly. * Assist with organizing and presenting at various system or plant meetings. * This position will also assist with package boiler installation and inspection activities for the coastal plants similar to the HRSG requirements listed above. * This position does require overnight travel primarily within the Southern Company fleet with some nationwide travel on occasion. JOB REQUIREMENTS Education * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5 years' experience in operating or maintaining HRSGs or utility boilers. Knowledge/Skills * Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program or at least five (5) years' experience in the installation and/or quality assurance of utility boiler or HRSG pressure parts or in maintenance or operation of an HRSG or utility boiler. * This position requires a working knowledge of the functional characteristics of at least most major mechanical power plant equipment [i.e., HRSG's, boilers, steam turbines, condensers, major pumps, cooling towers, selective catalytic reduction (SCR), oxidation catalyst for CO reduction, thermal cycle, and circulating water system] to provide effective solutions to equipment problems and maintenance activities. * Experience with major retrofit projects such as replacing pressure part components, harps or modules, for HRSGs is a plus. * Ability to analyze critical situations and determine competent solutions that can be implemented in a safe and effective manner. * General ability to utilize computer drawing programs and read engineering drawings. * Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse teams consisting of vendors, plant personnel, and other E&CS personnel to achieve successful project results. * Ability to successfully interface with pressure part manufacturers and other utility technical support suppliers (EPRI, Suppliers, etc.) in a professional manner. * Knowledge of NDE inspection techniques and processes. * Physical ability to climb ladders and in crawl in tight spaces, use fall protection while working at heights, respirator use, etc. * Must be proficient in use of computer-based applications, i.e. Microsoft Office suite. * Must possess effective written and oral communications skills. * Must exhibit Southern Style behavior. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS * This position may require both day-trip and overnight travel (up to 50%). Mechanical Superintendent - International LOCATIONS International - Locations Vary SUMMARY Manages field operations specifically relating to building mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, building automation controls, fire protection, wastewater treatment, fuel tanks and distribution systems, water purification and treatment systems, and mechanical site utilities) in order to achieve a satisfactory, orderly level of production by crafts and subcontractors. Enforces all relevant safety and quality control policies and procedures in assigned area. Ensures that work meets the owner's expectations, produces satisfactory profits, meets time limitations and contractual requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES * Works closely with Project Superintendent Project Manager, Quality Control Manager and Home Office Mechanical Procurement coordinator as required, in formulating, discussing and finalizing the overall plan of operations, job layout, job schedule, etc. * Manages the day-to-day work of crafts and subcontractors in field, delegates work through foreman and/or subcontractor representatives. A minimum of five years' design/build experience with mechanical systems required. Four-year degree in building science, construction management, or engineering and ten years total construction management experience preferred. Certifications, Licenses, etc.: Current clearance, or the ability to obtain, a Department of Defense minimum secret security clearance required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership and management skills required. Deep knowledge and understanding of electrical systems required. Requires excellent technical and management skills. Strong client relations skills are a must. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage costs and control schedule. Excellent knowledge of safety requirements. Ability to coach, lead and motivate multinational and multi-disciplined employees.
